BHTP AdrenalineCare Insurance – Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is BHTP AdrenalineCare and who is it designed for?

AdrenalineCare is a comprehensive travel insurance plan from Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP) specifically built for travelers who plan adventurous or high-risk activities during their trips. Unlike standard travel insurance that commonly excludes "adventure sports," AdrenalineCare includes a built-in Adventure Sports Exclusion Waiver, so activities like skydiving, BASE jumping, scuba diving beyond 60 feet, mountain climbing with technical equipment, motor racing, and more are all covered. It's ideal for thrill-seekers, outdoor adventurers, extreme sports enthusiasts, and anyone whose trip revolves around high-adrenaline activities.

2. What extreme sports are covered by AdrenalineCare?

AdrenalineCare includes an Adventure Sports Exclusion Waiver that covers activities typically excluded by standard travel insurance, including: skydiving, BASE jumping, bungee jumping, hang gliding, parachuting, zip-lining, free diving or scuba diving at depths greater than 60 feet, motor racing and motor sport (including training/practice), technical mountain climbing requiring specialized equipment (pick-axes, crampons, carabiners, etc.), caving and spelunking, free climbing, and operating or learning to operate aircraft as a student, pilot, or crew.

3. How much does emergency medical and evacuation coverage provide?

AdrenalineCare provides up to $50,000 in emergency medical expenses (with a $500 dental sub-limit) and up to $750,000 in emergency evacuation and repatriation of remains coverage (with a $25,000 escort sub-limit). These apply to injuries or sicknesses that occur during your trip, including injuries sustained while participating in covered adventure sports. Emergency medical extends to physician services, hospital charges, X-rays, local ambulance, and prosthetic devices. The $750,000 evacuation limit is particularly important for remote adventure destinations where medical transport can be extremely costly.

4. What is the early purchase window and why does it matter?

The early purchase window is the 15-day period following your initial trip payment (your first deposit to an airline, hotel, cruise line, or tour operator). If you purchase AdrenalineCare within this 15-day window, you unlock three additional benefits at no extra cost: (1) a Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver - meaning conditions you had before purchase are covered, provided you're medically able to travel at purchase and insure all trip costs; (2) Financial Default coverage - if your travel supplier goes bankrupt, you're reimbursed for forfeited prepaid trip costs; and (3) Cancel for Work Reasons- if your employer requires you to work during your trip or your company undergoes a major event, you can cancel and be reimbursed. Buy early to lock in these protections.

5. Does AdrenalineCare cover pre-existing medical conditions?

Yes, provided you purchase the policy within 15 days of your initial trip deposit. To qualify for the Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver, you must: (1) purchase within the 15-day early purchase window; (2) insure the full amount of all prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs at the time of purchase; and (3) be medically able to travel when the policy is purchased. If these conditions are met, pre-existing conditions are covered up to 100% of your insured trip cost (up to $50,000). Without the early purchase, pre-existing conditions are excluded.

Note: The pre-existing condition lookback period is 180 days prior to the policy effective date.

6. Is sports equipment covered if it's delayed or lost?

Yes. AdrenalineCare includes a Sporting & Golf Equipment Delay benefit that reimburses up to $500 if your sporting or golf equipment is delayed or misdirected by the common carrier for more than 6 consecutive hours. The benefit covers the rental or purchase of replacement equipment so your adventure isn't derailed. Additionally, the Baggage & Personal Effects benefit provides up to $1,500 for loss, theft, or damage to your baggage (including sporting equipment) during your trip $500 for the first item and $250 per additional item. The Expeditions Rider also covers trip cancellation if your necessary personal sporting equipment is delayed by the carrier for a hunting or fishing expedition.

7. Is there a free look / cancellation period?

Yes. You may cancel AdrenalineCare for any reason within 15 days of purchase, provided your trip has not yet started and no claim has been filed. BHTP will refund your full premium within 10 days of receiving your cancellation notice. After this period, the premium is non-refundable.

8. Can I add Car Rental Collision coverage to AdrenalineCare?

Yes. The Car Rental Collision Upgrade Endorsement is an optional add-on available for an additional premium. It covers up to $35,000 per policy for damage due to collision, vandalism, windstorm, fire, hail, or flood subject to a $100 deductible. Coverage applies to standard rental vehicles used during the trip and does not cover motorcycles, ATVs, vehicles over 10 years old, or vehicles valued over $75,000 MSRP.
