02. Student Health Insurance for Research student from India visiting Maryland,USA

questionHi,
I will doing research in National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). NIST is a government research institute and does not conduct courses. The brochure of Study-USA states that I am eligible only if I am doing research in educational institute. So I want to know if I am eligible for Study-USA or not.
I intend to buy the scheme for one year, but I intend to pay monthly premium. So if I buy the scheme now in India, will there be an issue if I pay the premium later while I am in Maryland.
Thanks!
Vishal

questionDear Vishal,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your International students health insurance needs!.
Please find the answers to your questions below them:

Question: I will doing research in National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). NIST is a government research institute and does not conduct courses. The brochure of Study USA states that I am eligible only if I am doing research in educational institute. So I want to know if I am eligible for Study USA or not.
Answer: This depends on your visa. If you have an F1, J1 visa, the answer is - Yes.
If you are on F1 or M1 visa as long as you are working at least 30 hours per week you are eligible.

Question: I intend to buy the scheme for one year, but I intend to pay monthly premium. So if I buy the scheme now in India, will there be an issue if I pay the premium later while I am in Maryland.
Answer: This IS going to be an issue with MANY insurance companies. The good news is that with Study-USA, you can sign up for the year (9 months, whatever) and pay for it monthly. You will NOT be able to purchase this again if you are physically in the state of Maryland. However, if you do your purchase from India (or most other places) it will be fine. Just be sure you sign up to pay "MONTHLY" instead of "SINGLE PAYMENT".

I hope this helps and have a great flight over!

03. Student Health Insurance coverage for gastroenterology related problems

questionDear customer support,
I am an international student coming to the US. I am current suffering from an gastroenterology related problem and need coverage for the same. Please recommend appropriate plan options for me.
Thank you,
Catherine

questionDear Catherine,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your International students health insurance needs!
Your health condition which is Gastroenterology is considered as a pre existing condition.
You need to enroll in some University to get a student health insurance plan. Are you enrolled to a University in America? Which state are you coming to in US? Insurance coverage will not be provided if you are just coming to US to receive treatment for existing ailments.
To receive coverage for pre existing condition, the following student health insurance plans are available with a waiting period of 6 months or 180 days. Your insurance plan needs to be effective for 6 months after which any medically urgent issues that arise due to your pre existing condition will be covered depending on how serious the issue is. Only if the issue absolutely needs medical attention, those treatments might be covered.
Please give us a call or let us know your phone number in case you want to talk.

05. Health Insurance Covers thyroid and parathyroid illness for J1 Visa holder

questionHi,
My name is Amanda and I was wondering if you could help me out. I am from Ireland and currently processing my 1year J1 work and travel visa through the IIIC in Boston so that I can work in New York for a year. The next step in my visa requires me to give proof of insurance. I have been looking at your insurance plan A but it would be great if you could verify if this would be the appropriate one as I have a pre-existing thyroid and parathyroid illness. Both require me to take one tablet a day so it's not serious by any means but I do wish to be covered if I can. The rules of the visa require that my insurance have these points below: Your Health Insurance policy must match or better the cover specifics required by the U.S. State Department for access to the J1 Irish Work and Travel Program, as follows:
1. Medical benefits of at least $50,000.00 per accident or illness
2. Repatriation of remains in the sum of $7,500.00.
3. Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $10,000.00. 4. A deductible (amount payable by you) not to exceed $500 per accident or illness. Would it be possible to get a quote of you which includes these points and also takes into account my pre-existing illness?
Many thanks,
Amanda

questionDear Amanda,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your J1 Visa students health insurance needs!.
We work extensively with J1 visitors and have many plans open to you.
However we are unable to identify the plan you are writing about. We need the name of the plan. 'Plan A' could be one of several versions of our plans.
If you can provide the plan name we can give you specific information on that plan.
In the meanwhile however the Study USA Healthcare plan is one of the best plans available. It conforms with all J1 visa requirements. With regard to pre-existing conditions, this plan has a 6 month waiting period after which the condition is covered. All other plans open to J1 visa holders either have a longer waiting period OR do not cover pre-existing conditions at all.
