Defense Base Act Insurance
BA insurance is a federal workers compensation insurance for US Government contractors working outside the United States. The US federal law has made this coverage compulsory for employees performing work abroad whether the work is done on a US military base or not.
This insurance is mandatory for employers to purchase it for all U.S. civilian contractors, third-country nationals, and local national. They may be considered primary contractors or subcontractors for the U.S. government.
It offers coverage for injuries, disabilities, dismemberments resulting from work. It also offers life term benefits to children and spouse of the employee in case of death. DBA insurance protects the employer from certain liability claims while it offers coverage for its employees.
