Annual Travel Insurance Plan Covering Trips in the U.S. and Abroad

Hi,
Is there an annual multi-trip travel insurance plan for U.S. residents that covers both international trips and trips within the U.S.?
Thank you,
Sasha
Dear Sasha,

The Voyager Annual insurance plan offered by Travel Insurance Services is a great option for US citizens and/or residents with their own primary health insurance plan. This is the only annual multi-trip plan that will cover trips outside the US as well as 100 miles away from your home within the US. This plan will cover you for trip of up to 90 days (each trip). There are two levels of the plan SILVER and GOLD. The Silver plan has a fixed cost of $332 per year per person. The Gold plan is based on age with most ages costing below the Gold plan price (80+ are higher). The Silver plan covers up to $50,000 maximum for medical expenses and the Gold up to $250,000. The gold plan covers airline ticket change fee up to $200, trip interruption, and political evacuation, while the Silver does not have those benefits. Both cover baggage loss and delay as well as AD&D, repatriation, and emergency medical evacuation (the gold has higher coverage levels).

The plan will cost $100 for silver or $332 for gold for a year of coverage.

Can You Buy Travel Insurance for an Entire Year?

Yes, you can. If you travel more than once or twice a year, annual travel insurance (also called multi-trip travel insurance) lets you stay covered for all your trips with just one policy. It’s simple, convenient, and often cheaper than buying insurance every time you travel.

Key Features of Annual Travel Insurance:
  • One policy for the whole year: Coverage lasts 12 months from the day you buy it.
  • Travel as often as you like: Take multiple trips without buying a new plan each time.
  • Trip length limits apply: Each trip usually can’t exceed 30, 45, or 90 days.
  • Medical protection abroad: Covers emergency medical care and evacuation.
  • Travel hiccups covered: Includes benefits for trip interruptions, delays, and baggage issues.
  • Better value for frequent travelers: Usually costs less than multiple single-trip policies.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Pre-existing conditions: Coverage may be available, but you usually need to buy the plan soon after your first trip payment.
  • Coverage limits matter: Benefits reset per trip but still have maximum limits.
  • Buy it early: Purchasing before your first trip ensures full coverage for the year.

Annual travel insurance is a smart choice if you travel three or more times a year and want peace of mind without the hassle of repeat purchases.

How to Choose the Right Annual Travel Insurance Plan?

  • Assess your travel frequency: If you travel more than three times a year, an annual travel insurance policy is generally more economical than buying separate policies for each visit. This is particularly useful for regular travelers, both saving time and money.
  • Consider your coverage requirements: It’s important to ensure that the annual plan provides coverage for your specific needs. Make sure the policy includes emergency medical coverage, trip cancellation, lost baggage, and any activities you may participate in, such as adventure sports or high-risk activities.
  • Check the policy limits: Check the policy limits under the coverage to make sure they are enough to protect you. Check for the highest limits of medical costs, emergency evacuation, and loss of baggage. The limits must be high enough to cater to any emergencies or losses that might occur during your travels.
  • Read the fine print: Always read the fine print of the policy to fully understand what is and isn’t covered. Be aware of exclusions or conditions that might affect your coverage, such as limitations on pre-existing conditions, specific activities, or certain travel destinations. This helps you know absolutely everything about any possible gaps in your coverage.
