No, visitor insurance even those with pre-existing condition coverage does not cover preventive care, in other words planned medical tests will not be covered.
No. Unfortunately, these sorts of things cannot be covered by short term medical policies. The best thing you can do is find out some places ahead of their visit that will do the necessary treatment and tell them the situation. Usually, providers will reduce the price for persons without insurance (of which, sadly, there are many).
Planning for the birth of a child should be a happy, carefree time. However, it is always good to plan ahead in terms of insurance. We offer many global or international health insurance policies that will cover delivery of a child and which you can add the child to after birth to cover its medical expenses and routine checkups. These policies have a 10 to 12 month waiting period for such coverage, so it is a good idea to plan ahead. Once you are on one of these policies, coverage is guaranteed year after year regardless of any change in health status. For some, you must purchase a special "maternity" policy for additional cost, while others cover it at a set limit without additional cost. For details of these plans, please browse options here.
Our plans allow you to use any hospital doctor.
All plans we sell for short term coverage are for sudden illness and accident only. Elective check ups and wellness visits are not covered, not even for additional cost. The only thing you can do to get your visitor a check up is to do some calling around and see what the physician you'd like them to see will charge you. Tell them it is a visitor and they do not have insurance to cover it. They will usually reduce the price for you. Be sure you ask about all costs including lab work, etc. since nowadays many offices send these out for analysis and you will be billed from a separate provider for those fees.
Most of the US visitors insurance plans provide coverage for "Acute Onset of Pre-Existing Conditions". This basically provides coverage in the event of an existing medical ailment becoming life threatening and needing emergency medical care. This coverage will usually have exclusions for coverage of gradual or slow worsening of the existing ailment. INF is one of the few companies which offers USA travel insurance plans for visitors to the US with full coverage for pre-existing ailments. INF plans cover all pre-existing conditions with full Pre-Existing conditions coverage. This means INF insures any in-patient, out-patient, urgent care, specialist, doctor visits, anything related to pre-existing conditions. The INF plans treat the pre-existing conditions like any new sicknesses. Prescription Medications are also covered when prescribed for a recent medical incident caused by a pre-existing condition. However, maintenance medications like Lipitor are not covered under this plan. This also means INF will not have exclusions that are typical in 'acute onset of pre-existing conditions'. Some of the common pre-existing condition exclusions are :
  • A limit on the coverage for certain adverse medical events like a myocardial infraction, heart attack or other Cardiac events.
  • A limit on the number of occurrences within the insured period
  • Explicit exclusions for certain ailments like Urinary Tract infections, Kidney infections or Bladder infections
This also explains why 'Full pre-existing conditions coverage' is more expensive than coverage only for 'acute onset of pre-existing conditions'. However, please note the INF does not support medical tourism, where patients buy this insurance simply to get medical treatment for an existing ailment.
The Full pre-existing conditions coverage plans treat any issue related to a pre-existing condition like a New Accident and Sickness, subject to the policy maximum and deductible limits. This explains why 'Full pre-existing conditions coverage' plans are more expensive than coverage only for 'acute onset of pre-existing conditions'.
Full Pre-Existing means that any pre-existing condition is covered as a new sickness. Full pre-existing conditions coverage includes In-Patient, out-patient, urgent-care, and specialist visits. An example could be where the visitor has existing heart ailments. During the visit to the US, they begin experiencing heart pain. The visitor can see a cardiologist and this would be covered under the full pre-existing condition coverage. Prescription Medications are covered if prescribed for this incident caused by a pre-existing condition. However maintenance medications, such as Lipitor, are not covered under this plan. This entire situation would likely be excluded under 'acute onset of existing ailments' unless the situation deteriorates and becomes life threatening. Basically, INF Plans treats any issue related to a pre-existing condition like a New Accident & Sickness, subject to the policy maximum and deductible limits. This is the main reason why 'Full pre-existing conditions coverage' plans are more expensive than coverage only for 'acute onset of pre-existing conditions'.
In short the answer is Yes. INF insurance will cover any pre-existing conditions ranging from blood pressure, diabetes, to kidney complications and arthritis. All of these issues are all covered by the INF Premier & INF Elite Network best travel insurance for pre existing conditions.
Prescription Medications are covered when prescribe for a recent incident caused by a pre-existing condition. Maintenance medications, such as Lipitor, are not covered under this plan.
