Patriot Exchange Health Insurance for Dependents

Thank you for the information. I have some questions to ask about the patriot-exchange plan and other things as below:

  • When I check the link about the price, there are several options for my daughter. The one you recommended on phone is $724.32 (covering for 1 year). The last option I saw is $763.92. What are the differences between these two options?
  • As my daughter will stay with me until I finish my study, can I buy the health insurance for her annually? Or does the US government require her to have the health insurance coverage from the start to the end of her visa? This will affect my decision.
  • Any other options or adds-on for her general dental cost? If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

support_agentDear Aranya ,
Thank you for contacting us for your insurance needs. The policy below is an excellent option for the J visa holder and/or their dependents. The Patriot Exchange insurance plan is offered by International Medical Group (IMG) and provides comprehensive insurance for international students (F1 visa) and J1 visa scholars in the USA. It satisfies J visa and most US university requirements and is hugely popular. It is also a policy which a J2 visa holder can purchase without the J1 visa holder as the primary insured. If there is a health center available, the insured only pays a $5 copay instead of the $100 deductible. This and many other benefits make it a very economical and excellent choice for J visa holders.

  • When I check the link about the price, there are several options for my daughter. The one you recommended on phone is $724.32 (covering for 1 year). The last option I saw is $763.92. What are the differences between these two options?
Answer:The other options have different maximums and some have additional add ons for sports coverage and personal liability. You probably don't need that additional coverage.
  • As my daughter will stay with me until I finish my study, can I buy the health insurance for her annually? Or does the US government require her to have the health insurance coverage from the start to the end of her visa? This will affect my decision.
Answer:Heath insurance can only be purchased one year at a time. I don't know the government requirements, but I doubt they will require more than a year's coverage since this is just not available. Perhaps when you renew your visa, they will want to see the next years coverage. You will have to ask them for that information as I don't know their procedures (only what they require in the insurance).
  • Any other options or adds-on for her general dental cost? If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
Answer:There are no plans which cover dental costs. These plans are usually long term for permanent residents. However, what you can do is find a dentist that will take new patients and simply ask how much they will charge you for your daughter. Explain you do not have insurance and they will often reduce the price for you (like they do for the insurance companies). This is what I did before I had any dental insurance (many people do not have this).
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions or issues.
