Atlas Travel Insurance PPO Network – How It Works

Inside the USA - In-Network (PPO)

Atlas America plans use the UnitedHealthcare PPO Network, allowing travelers to access a large network of doctors and hospitals across the United States. After the deductible, the plan pays 100% of eligible medical expenses up to the overall maximum limit. Using in-network providers can also help simplify billing and reduce upfront medical expenses during treatment.

Outside the USA - Any Licensed Provider

Atlas International plans do not use a PPO network, allowing travelers to visit any licensed doctor or hospital worldwide without network restrictions. The plan offers flexible worldwide medical coverage, including hospitalization, emergency medical treatment, and doctor visits, with eligible expenses covered up to the selected policy maximum.

How to Purchase Atlas Travel Insurance?

Common Questions

Atlas Travel Insurance - FAQs

Atlas Travel Insurance covers emergency medical expenses including hospitalization, doctor visits, ICU care, emergency dental treatment, emergency medical evacuation, repatriation, trip interruption, travel delay, and emergency reunion. It also covers COVID-19 treatment, acute onset of pre-existing conditions (under age 80), complications of pregnancy (first 26 weeks), outpatient physical therapy, personal liability, AD&D, lost passport, pet return, bedside visits, and more. See the full benefits table above for complete details.
Atlas America is designed for non-US citizens visiting the United States. It includes US coverage and access to the UnitedHealthcare PPO network. Atlas International covers travel outside the USA and is available to both US citizens and non-US citizens. Because Atlas International excludes the USA (where healthcare costs are highest), its premiums are significantly lower. See our comparison table above.
Atlas Travel Insurance covers the acute onset of pre-existing conditions up to the overall maximum limit for travelers under age 80 (up to $25,000 for Emergency Medical Evacuation). "Acute onset" means a sudden, unexpected, and rapidly progressive outbreak requiring urgent care within 24 hours of symptoms. Chronic, congenital, or gradually worsening conditions are not covered. Travelers aged 70–79 receive coverage up to the overall maximum limit or $100,000, whichever is lower.
Inside the USA, Atlas America is part of the UnitedHealthcare PPO network. When you visit an in-network provider, after your deductible the plan pays 80% of eligible expenses and you pay 20% for the first $5,000 of covered costs. After that, the plan pays 100%. Outside the USA, there is no PPO restriction - you may visit any licensed medical provider, and the plan pays 100% after your deductible. To find an in-network doctor, visit worldtrips.com/find-a-doctor.
Yes. If you initially purchased coverage for less than 364 days, you can renew your Atlas Travel Insurance online up to a total of 364 days. Renewals are available before your current policy expires.
Atlas Travel Insurance meets insurance requirements for B-2 tourist visas, F-1 student visas, J-1 exchange scholar visas, H1B and H4 work visas, and K-1 fiancée visas. Whether the US consulate or embassy specifically requires travel insurance depends on the visa type and the consular officer, but Atlas plans are widely accepted for US visa applications.
Yes. All Atlas Travel Insurance plans include coverage for COVID-19 treatment as they would any other covered illness. This means doctor visits, hospitalization, ICU care, and emergency medical evacuation related to COVID-19 are covered up to your policy maximum, subject to deductible and coinsurance.
Yes. Atlas International meets all Schengen area travel insurance requirements, including minimum medical coverage and emergency medical evacuation. It is widely accepted when applying for Schengen visas for travel to European countries. Your policy documents and ID card are emailed instantly after purchase, which you can submit with your visa application.
Atlas Travel Insurance is underwritten by TMHCC Insurance SPC Ltd and Houston Casualty Company, both members of the Tokio Marine HCC group of companies. The underwriter holds an A++ (Superior) rating from AM Best - the highest possible financial strength rating, indicating exceptional ability to meet ongoing insurance obligations.
Yes. Atlas Travel Insurance covers many popular vacation sports at no additional cost, including skiing, snowboarding, snorkeling, water skiing, and similar recreational activities. Extreme sports (such as professional or competitive activities, motorsports, mountaineering above certain elevations, etc.) may be excluded. Review the policy exclusions or ask an American Visitor Insurance agent if your specific activity is covered.
Atlas Travel Insurance covers complications of pregnancy during the first 26 weeks of gestation. It does not cover routine prenatal care, normal delivery, or maternity care beyond complications during the first 26 weeks.
Atlas Nomads is specifically designed for non-US citizens and non-US residents who work remotely while traveling internationally. If you are a digital nomad living and working outside your home country and you are not a US citizen or resident, Atlas Nomads provides comprehensive health coverage, emergency evacuation, and trip interruption benefits while you explore the world. It starts at approximately $1.85/day.
Yes. The Atlas plan series is not available to individuals physically located in the states of New York, Maryland, or Washington, or in the countries of Canada or Australia at the time of purchase.
The benefit period is 90 days per certificate period. This means that for any covered illness or injury that begins during your coverage, you have up to 90 days from the onset to continue seeking treatment under that same covered condition. This is separate from your overall policy duration (up to 364 days).
You can file a claim online through the WorldTrips claims portal. Keep all receipts, medical reports, and bills from your providers. In a medical emergency, contact WorldTrips' 24/7 emergency assistance line (found on your ID card) before seeking treatment when possible, as pre-authorization may be required for certain services. American Visitor Insurance licensed agents can assist you in the claims process - call (877) 340-7910.
Yes. Atlas America Insurance is a good option for visitors who are already in the USA without current insurance coverage. It's also appropriate for international students on OPT status, H1B visa holders, and H4 visa spouses. However, the plan cannot be backdated - coverage begins the day after purchase (or your specified start date, whichever is later).
