What is a Coinsurance in Atlas Essential insurance?

Co-insurance is the percentage of eligible expenses the company will pay after the deductible is met. If the insured receives treatment in the PPO Network, Atlas Essential America insurance plan pays 75% of eligible expenses after the deductible to the overall maximum limit and Atlas Essential international insurance covers expenses up to the usual, reasonable, and customary limits. You may be responsible for any costs exceeding the covered amount.

You must purchase coverage for at least 5 days, though you do not have to travel all 5 days.If you are under age 65, you may select an overall maximum limit between $50,000 and $2,000,000. The Atlas Series is not available to individuals who are physically located in the states of New York, Maryland, or Washington; or in the countries of Canada or Australia at time of purchase.

What are the exclusions of Atlas Essential Travel Insurance?

Certain types of medical expenses are excluded from coverage under Atlas Travel insurance. Some exclusions are listed here. Please refer to the Description of Coverage for the complete list of exclusions.

  • Charges resulting directly or indirectly from any pre-existing condition, except as covered under the Acute Onset of Pre-Existing Condition benefit
  • Routine medical examinations
  • Routine pre-natal care, pregnancy, childbirth, and post-natal care
  • Mental health disorders
  • Medical expenses for injury or illness resulting from participation in specifically-excluded extreme sports see Description of Coverage for full list of excluded sports).
A pre-existing condition is any condition:
  1. for which medical advice, diagnosis, care, or treatment was recommended or received within 2 years prior to your effective date of coverage
  2. which would cause a reasonably prudent person to seek medical advice, diagnosis, care, or treatment within 2 years prior to your effective date of coverage
  3. that existed (with reasonable medical certainty) with 2 years prior to your effective date of coverage, whether or not it was known to you
