General definition of pre-existing condition:
"A condition a person has been diagnosed with, is being treated for, or has with reasonable medical certainty before the start of the plan". So a person does not need to know they have the condition for it to be considered pre-existing (a diagnosis is not required).

Acute onset of pre-existing condition:
Acute onset of pre-existing conditions means sudden, unexpected emergency due to a pre-existing condition that can be dangerous to life and the traveler cannot wait to get treatment in the home country but to receive treatment immediately. It should be noted that for acute onset coverage, treatment must be sought within the defined time period for the plan and chronic and congenital conditions may not be covered.

Hi,
I am looking to compare Atlas Premium and Atlast Essential insurance for my father who is not a resident of the USA but is going to be here for 6months. He is 77years and has a pre-existing condition- prostate cancer. I would appreciate it if you could share where I could find a list of in-network oncologists in IL and MN. Also, if the drug Zoladex LA is covered by any of the plans.
Thank you,
Deepa Sethi

Dear Zack,

With the Atlas Premium plan only acute onset or sudden recurrence of the pre existing conditions are covered. Any routine work or prescription medication for the pre existing conditions are not covered.

With the Atlas Essential plan pre existing condition coverage is excluded.

Most of the insurance plans cover only acute onset of pre-existing conditions and not the other routine expenses associated with the condition.
Please let us know if we can help you in any further.

Sincerely,
