Despite the Covid19 pandemic, several Snowbirds traveled South to the United States during the winter months. However, in early 2021, to protect Canadians from the spread of the new Coronavirus Delta variant, the Canadian government had placed strict rules for air travelers entering Canada and this includes Canadian Citizens (snowbirds).
All air travelers arriving to Canada had to quarantine themselves for a total of 14 days and mandatory first 3 day stay at an airport hotel costing them up to $2,000 per person. However effective August 9, 2021 the Canadian government has opened their borders for non-essential travel for US citizens and US permanent residents who are fully vaccinated at least 14 days before arriving in Canada. Starting September 7th 2021, and depending on the country’s domestic situation of the Coronavirus cases, Canada is planning to re-open its borders for all air travelers who are fully vaccinated 14 days prior to the entry into the country.
The COVID-19 pandemic has really changed the shape of travel for the time being. If you have any doubts as to your coverage, we urge to to check on your benefits with your insurance provider and know that we have alternatives should you need coverage now either due to cancellation or expiration of the policy. Note that some companies cannot sell policies to Canadian citizens or to people with Canadian addresses.
