01.  Coverage for J2 visa holder who is pregnant

questionHello,
I am interested to purchase Patriot Exchange plan. Does it cover dental?
Thanks,
Zaeema

questionDear Zaeema,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your J2 Visa health insurance needs!. The Patriot Exchange program insurance plan does not cover dental. This plan will only cover injury to your teeth.
If you are considering buying a dental plan The we have an option called SecureDentalOne. It has an interesting feature in that it has a $100 LIFETIME deductible so that once you pay it, you will not have to pay a deductible ever again (this is unusual, usually there is a per year or per incident deductible). This will save you money if you intend to keep the insurance long-term (i.e. at least two years). The SecureDentalOne also has three options (PremierOne, ClassicOne, and BasicOne). The PremierOne would be $XXX per month and the ClassicOne would be $XXX per month without the OrthoCare option (which offers discounts on orthodontics and teeth whitening services).
Also note that PremierOne plans have graded coverage which increase each year that you have to plan (until the 3rd year), so it’s advisable that you choose a plan for the long term now to enjoy those benefits as soon as you can.
Here is the link to purchase the SecureDentalOne plan:

02.  US based Underwriter for F1 visa student insurance

questionHello,
Looking to buy your Patriot Exchange program.
I am a UK citizen and will be doing my Masters in Ohio, USA and have my F1 visa.

My University's own healthcare plan has stipulated if I take out my own healthcare plan they need to be based in the USA and the underwriters need to be American too. If the Insurance plans are not underwritten within the United States they do not meet waiver requirements. Plans that are not underwritten in the United States are not required to meet mandated benefit and underwriting regulations as set forth by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Can you please let me know as soon as you can.

Thanks,
Lisa

Without doubt, all students should have health insurance while they are in the US. The US health care costs are the highest in the world and a minor injury or accident could set you back tens of thousands of dollars. However, students should confirm if the University allows students to but insurance outside the University, and if they can get the required insurance waiver for this student insurance.

10.  Why should international students compare health insurance?

Most international student health insurance plans seem similar on first impressions. In order to choose the best plan based on the students requirements and to get sufficient coverage from the international student insurance plan, it is important to compare different features available in the student health insurance plan.

The following are important factors for comparing student health insurance plans:

Policy Maximum: This is the maximum amount on the insurance plan which normally ranges from $50,000 up to $1,000,000. This is the maximum a policy can cover in case of an extreme emergency as per the policy guidelines and conditions mentioned in the policy.

Picking a large deductible thus low premium by choosing a comprehensive plan is usually recommended, as most of the comprehensive plans have an one time deductible and is cost effective.

Pre existing condition coverage: This is very important benefit factor as many customers need this benefit. The student plans have a minimum 6 month waiting period for coverage of pre-existing conditions.

Cancellation and Renewability: Each plan have their unique cancellation and renew-ability policies. It is important to pay attention to it if there is any ambiguity while booking insurance initially.
