Patriot Exchange student insurance is an international student health insurance plan offered by IMG (International Medical Group) for the medical insurance needs of international students (F1 visa holders in the US), scholars, and cultural exchange participants (J visa holders in the US) studying or engaging in educational programs abroad. The plan offers comprehensive medical benefits, including hospitalization, doctor visits, emergency medical evacuation, prescription drugs, and more, ensuring that students have access to necessary medical care while away from home. The plan meets the US visa requirements for J1 and J2 visa holders, as well as other visa types.

The plan pays 90% of first $1,000 then 100% up to the policy maximum after the deductible within the provider network in the US, and the plan pays 80% up to the policy maximum in outside the network in the US. Outside the US, the plan covers 100% up to the policy maximum after the deductible. This plan offers coverage for minimum of 1 month up to 12 months and it can be renewable up to 48 months. It offers $5 co-pay per visit to Student Health Center. Offers 24/7 access to tele-health providers for non-emergency care within the US. covers Pre-existing conditions after 12 months of continuous coverage $500 per period of coverage; $1,500 lifetime maximum.

After a waiting period of 12 months, charges for conditions existing within 36 months before the effective date, can be covered up to $500 per period of coverage and $1,500 maximum limit. The plan offers up to a $5,000 maximum limit for a sudden and unexpected recurrence of a pre-existing.

What is the eligibility to buy Patriot Exchange Insurance?
  • Be an active Participant, Spouse of the Participant, or Children traveling with the Participant and residing outside his/her primary Country of Residence for a temporary period of time, and if Destination Country is the United States, Insured Person must hold one of the following visa types: F1/F2, J1/J2, M1/M2 or A1/A2
  • Be at least 31 days old but not yet 65 year old.
  • Be physically and legally residing in the destination country with the intent to reside there for at least 30 days on the effective date and at renewal.
  • Not be hospitalized, disabled, pregnant or HIV+ on the initial effective date.

Patriot Exchange is designed for individuals and groups of students studying abroad or participants of cultural exchange programs. Most plan options are designed to meet the U.S. J1, J2 and F1 visa travel insurance requirements.

02. Patriot Exchange Insurance will cover Adventure Sports?

Yes. The Adventure Sports Rider is available for those up to the age of 65. The following activities are covered to the lifetime maximum amounts listed below as long as they are engaged solely for leisure, recreation, or entertainment purposes: abseiling, BMX, bobsledding, bungee jumping, canyoning, caving, hot air ballooning, jungle zip lining, parachuting, paragliding, parascending, rappelling, skydiving; spelunking, whitewater kayaking, wildlife safaris, and windsurfing.

All such activities must be carried out in strict accordance with the rules, regulations, and guidelines of the applicable Governing Body or Authority of each such activity.

03. What are the coverage limits of Patriot Exchange Insurance?

Patriot Exchange Insurance is a medical insurance plan for students and cultural exchange participants. It has different coverage limits depending on the plan option you choose. The policy maximum choices are $50K, $100K, $250K, or $500K per injury/sickness. This plan offers Coinsurance 90% up to $10K, then 100% up to the policy maximum within the PPO network. Outside the PPO network, the plan pays 80% up to the policy maximum. Outside the U.S., the plan covers 100% up to the policy maximum.

04. Do this Patriot Exchange plan cover sports-related illness or injuries?

IMG Patriot Exchange plan include customization options and add-ons, including add-on coverage for high school sports ;interscholastic, intramural, or club sports, personal liability and legal assistance.

05. How Does the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Affect My Coverage?

Affordable Care Act affects the Non US students purchasing this plan. As non-resident aliens, international students, scholars and people involved in cultural exchange programs on F, J, Q, M Visas are not subject to the individual mandate for the first five years in the US. All other J categories are not subjected to the individual mandate for two years. Since international students are not subject to the mandate, they are not required to purchase a plan that meets PPACA requirements and can purchase the Patriot Exchange program.

06. How long can I renew Patriot Exchange?

Eligible insured can request coverage under the plan be renewed monthly for up to 12 month periods, for a maximum of 48 continuous months, as long as the premium is paid when due and the insured continues to meet the eligibility requirements of the plan.

07. Can f2 visa holder buy Patriot Exchange insurance?

Patriot Exchange is one of the best health insurance for f1 student's dependents which an F2 visa holder. The F2 visa holder can buy even if the corresponding F1 visa holder is not enrolled in the same plan.

08. Does IMG sell Cancel for Any Reason Insurance?

To be eligible for Patriot Exchange student travel Insurance, you must:

  • Be an active participant in a study or exchange program (i.e. student visa, exchange visa, visitor visa), the spouse of the participant, or a dependent traveling with the participant
  • Reside outside your home country for the purpose of pursuing international educational activities for a temporary period of time
  • Be physically and legally residing in host country with the intent to reside there for at least 30 days on the effective date and at renewal

Patriot Exchange student medical insurance covers Pre-existing conditions after 12 months of continuous coverage $500 per period of coverage; $1,500 lifetime maximum. Charges resulting directly or indirectly from or relating to any Pre-existing Condition that existed within 36 months prior to the Effective Date are excluded until the Insured Person has maintained 12 months of continuous coverage under this insurance.
