F2 Visa Student Insurance Forum

Hello,
I'm interested in F2 Medical insurance Atlas Premium America Plan. What does it mean by "up to $15 copy" in the outpatient benefit for doctor office visits?
Could you give an example? How much is the maximum coverage for doctor visits?

Thank you,
Dixi

Dear Dixi,
Thanks for your inquiry!

Copay is the amount that you pay for each doctor visit. If you have chosen the plan with a $0 deductible, then you need not pay the copay.
The maximum coverage that the plan will provide will be not more than what you have selected as policy maximum on your plan.
Let's say you have bought a plan with $50 deductible and a policy maximum of $50,000.

When you visit a doctor for some illness and let's say you incur a cost of $500 for the medicine and the check up. For the first time visit and medical expense you incur, you will be paying the $50 deductible and then you will pay $15 as co pay. The insurance company will be paying $435.
This plan says that the insurance company will pay 100% of co-insurance.
So, you do not have to worry about that.

Hello,
I am a Harvard Law School student with F-1 visa. I am looking for an insurance for my wife with a dependent visa F-2.
I have several questions as below.
1. Would there be any insurance that covers pregnancy for my wife?
2. Although my wife is not yet pregnant right now, would it be possible to purchase the insurance even after she is pregnant?
3. Is it possible to only purchase the insurance for one or two month? Or is there any minimum period to purchase the insurance?
I would appreciate if you could recommend any insurance that could cover pregnancy for a short period including the rate information.

Thank you,
Sungmin

Hi,
I am F2 visa holder and 6 weeks pregnant. I'll be joining my husband in USA in last week of October, 2016. I want to know about the insurance coverage i can avail for my whole pregnancy period and post pregnancy. Please advise appropriate coverage plan.
Thanks,
Laraib

Dear Laraib,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance! Since health insurance is for the unexpected, no policy will cover the delivery and wellness visits of a current pregnancy. However, we have one option that covers "complications of pregnancy" in the first 26 weeks of gestation.
Clearly, this is insurance that we hope you would not need, but should there be some problem or a premature birth event, you would be covered. Furthermore, the policy has many excellent benefits and will take care of you in case of any sudden illness or accident.
The plan is called Atlas America and can be purchased on line for guaranteed coverage. It also covers "acute onset" of pre-existing conditions. Children under 10 years of age are "free" with a paying adult on the policy.

Immediately after your purchase, you will get a confirmation email with an ID card that you can print out and should carry with you since it has all the information needed to access your insurance should you need to.
Do let us know if we can assist you further.

Hello,
I am F1 Visa holder and my wife and my child are on F2. We have been living in the US since 2011 and we are citizens of Iran. Is there any plan that can offer coverage for my wife and child who are on F2?
Thanks for your help!
Fereydoon

Dear Fereydoon,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your travel health insurance needs!
As per our conversation over phone, for your situation where your dependents are citizens of Iran and on F2 Visa and living in the US since 2011, the options are almost none. Most of our plans have Iran as restricted country. I had one more plan from GlobaI Underwriters but that plan is not suitable for you as you intend to stay in the US. That plan is a travel plan for short term and is for people who return to their home country. I think Obama Care is the best choice for you as you have been in US for almost 5 years. Please double check on the enrollment period for that. I know that it is over but if people loose jobs there could be a work around for it.
Very sorry for the inconvenience!

Hi,
I am looking for a comprehensive insurance for F2 visa holder that will cover all medical expenses and also pregnancy (currently not pregnant). Can you please guide?
Thanks,
Abhishek

Dear Abhishek,
Thank you for contacting American Visitor Insurance with your inquiry!
If you need insurance for just the F2 Visa holder then we have one student plan that covers only the F2 Visa holder even if the F1 Visa holder does not need insurance. Here is the plan details:

Patriot Exchange from IMG:

 Plan Details      Buy Now

But this plan does not provide coverage for pregnancy. If you need coverage for pregnancy then here are some details for you to read:
If the person is considering becoming pregnant and want to be sure you have insurance that will cover it, there are options available. If the person is a student enrolled full time in a college, then may be a 90 day waiting period or no waiting period for the pregnancy to be covered (although conception must occur AFTER the coverage begins). You can find quotes for student insurance below:

Students Medical Compare

Inbound Immigrant insurance:
If the person is not a student, the shortest waiting period (also 3 months) is for this policy which is only a fixed policy and offers $2,800 per pregnancy only. To purchase this policy, go to:

 Plan Details

The best options for those not yet pregnant are global health insurance options. These provide major medical coverage but they have a 10 month (for partial coverage) or 12 month waiting period. You can find quotes for global health insurance here:

Global Travel Compare

The best option for maternity coverage is Global Medical Platinum which covers maternity like any other illness. The Global Medical Gold plan only covers $5,000 for normal delivery and $7,500 for c-section). With all of the above plans, you will be charged an additional cost (usually $2,500) added to your premium to cover pregnancy. Another option that has recently added a maternity benefit is the Reside Worldwide plan which also has a 12 month wait period and only covers $4,000 for normal delivery, but has no additional cost for the maternity coverage.

Please let us know if we can help you in any further.

Hi,
I am 26 from China. Currently I am a F2 visa holder in US. I want to know more about the health insurance that fits me. It is better if the health insurance can cover the maternity just in case of pregnancy. I looked other QA and confused about this sentence 'These provide major medical coverage but they have a 10 month (for partial coverage) or 12 month waiting period.' Could you explain what is the waiting period.
Regards,
Emily

Dear Emily,
The waiting period means that you cannot get pregnant before 10 months or 12 months are over. If want sooner coverage, as a student I suggest any of the following policies:

Liaison Student:

 Buy Now      Plan Details

Study USA:

 Buy Now      Plan Details

Student Health Advantage Platinum

 Buy Now      Plan Details

These all cover pregnancy as long as conception occurs after the start of the policy. You can read the brochure for details.

Hi,
Hi, my wife is here in F2 visa. Could I please be informed the insurance plans required for her? Could I also be informed what are the areas that would be covered?

Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting American Visitor Insurance with your insurance inquiry
. We work with several highly rated health insurance companies to offer a wide choice of medical policies for visitors to the US. The plan cost (or premium) will depend on:
  • Traveler’s age
  • Maximum coverage requested
  • Deductible
  • Type of coverage (Fixed versus Comprehensive)
To view the eligible plans please go to our compare facility at   Visitors medical compare

Are there specific requirements for your wife? Are there specific items you wish to be covered. Generally, the insurance is for sudden illness and accident only and please note we recommend a comprehensive plan over a fixed one.

Fill in the information requested, hit 'Get Quote' and you will be able to get quotes of eligible policies. Along with comparing quotes, you can review the detailed plan brochure as well as purchase the selected policy online.

To understand the difference between the fixed and comprehensive plans, please refer to - Fixed vs Comprehensive coverage

Hi,
I'm buying insurance for my wife. I'm already covered under my university insurance. I'm just looking for an insurance for her.
Thanks,
Jack

Dear Jack,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your travel health insurance needs!
The Patriot Exchange insurance plan is offered by International Medical Group (IMG) and provides comprehensive insurance for international students (F1 visa) and J1 visa scholars in the USA. This plan is suitable for F2 Visa holders. If there is a health center available, the insured only pays a $5 copay instead of the $100 deductible. This and many other benefits make it a very economical and excellent choice for J visa holders.
The details of the plans are available on our site at the below link:
