Please can you suggest an insurance plan for my family that includes me (34 years), my wife(30 years) and my son (4 years). I will be travelling to USA next month.

Hi,

I am trying to buy American visitor insurance for my family. The form does not allow for me to change the citizenship for my wife. My child and I are US citizens, but my wife is non-US citizen. Does this matter or are you looking for the citizenship of the primary applicant?

I am assuming that all of your family members are visiting US and you do not currently reside in US. Is that right? If not, please let us know. For your situation, your wife, yourself and your child are eligible to buy any of the below mentioned policies.

But you and your child need to be on one single plan with you as the primary and your child as the dependent. Your wife needs to have a separate plan.

Given below are details of plans that will cover US citizens who reside outside of the US while they visit the US and also cover Non US citizens visiting US.

Patriot America and Patriot America Plus plans from the company IMG:

This plan is a comprehensive plan from IMG and provides medical coverage for unexpected sickness and injury for US citizens while they are in the US. You can get all information about Patriot America Lite plan by reading the plan brochure. You can buy the Patriot America Lite policy online.

These plans define "home country" as where a person has a fixed residence, not necessarily their country of citizenship. So, as long as you intend to return to your country of residence, they will cover you.

The two policies are offered by the same company, but have different underwriters and vary in the maximum they will allow.

If you need coverage for acute onset of pre-existing conditions, then you can consider the below mentioned plan from the same company:

Patriot America Plus:

This plan covers US citizens while they are in the US in a similar way as Patriot America except this plan has coverage for acute onset of pre-existing conditions up to the age 70.

Answer: Immunizations and physical exams are excluded from the coverage.
