Hi,

Good afternoon, i am currently a UK citizen married to a US citizen, we are currently going through the process of visas trying to move me over permanently with a green card. If i was to get pregnant soon after i move is there insurance i can get to cover me with American healthcare?

I don't know how long they make you wait for the green card and social security number (SSN). Once you have a social security number, you should be able to purchase a domestic policy which will cover you fully (albeit cost a bundle); that would be the best option for your maternity wellness and delivery coverage. Alternatively, you can be placed on your husband's policy if he has one through an employer (I don't know if they make you wait for a SSN as well -- although in a perfect world they should not). They sometimes make the employee (and consequently their families) wait for health insurance coverage, so you can check with the employer. Or if you have an employer you can also get their plan (if they can hire you, it seems to me they can offer you insurance).

MEANWHILE, if they make you wait or you need some interim coverage, we do offer that. However, you should know that the maternity coverage is extremely limited if this is of main concern. The best option for the situation you describe is a plan called Atlas America. It offers coverage only for "complications" of pregnancy in the first 26 weeks of gestation. So, it is coverage you hope you do not need, but it does give you something of a buffer, just in case. What that means is, if you do get pregnant under that policy, all your wellness OB visits you will have to pay for out of pocket until you can get onto a domestic plan.

My wife (age 31), my daughter (age 2) and I (age 33), all from Sydney, Australia are travelling to Hawaii for a 10 day trip in March-April. My wife is pregnant, and the trip will be completed before she reaches 26 weeks. We conceived via IVF, and booked out trip before we found out we were pregnant. What we are looking for is some sort of insurance policy that would cover care of a new born child my wife had to give birth while on our trip. We are happy to pay a high premium and just wanted to know if there was any sort of policy like this for purchase.

Hi,

I have a friend that is a Chinese citizen that wishes to travel and stay with me for a period of time in the US. Her and her husband are trying to get pregnant now and she could potentially end up having the baby in the US. What is the best plan for her to purchase. She is in her early 30's and it's a while before her trip so if there's a waiting period to cover the delivery that's okay. I just want a reasonable deductible and enough coverage in case she does have the baby here in US either way she gives birth and if there's complications.

However, we have one option that covers "complications of pregnancy" in the first 26 weeks of gestation.

Hi,

My wife is traveling from Canada to California for one week. She is currently pregnant and will be in the 25th week of her pregnancy while visiting California. She is fully insured in Canada and wants to travel back to Canada for the delivery, however i want to know if there is any insurance that will insure the baby should there be a premature delivery while she is in the US. My wife is insured by her Canadian insurance even while in the US, the coverage request is really for the unborn baby, should the baby be born in the US?

The medical coverage for the baby would not be covered.
We do not cover children until they are 14 days old and not after that 14 days as the pre-mature delivery would be a pre-existing condition.

Hi,

I am looking for insurance to cover the potential worse case scenarios after having a c section. I do not want insurance to cover the c-section or hospital costs associated with a normal c section I am looking for insurance to cover any unexpected incidence ie baby needing neonatal care or for me post op complications. Unfortunately, if the c-section is not covered, then the complications arising from it with also not be covered. The baby, if born in the US, can purchase a domestic policy (ha, well, you can for him/her) and you should set this up in advance of the birth. To do that you can check your state's insurance marketplace and compare prices and choose one.

It is the top of the line plan for IMG. You are correct that it has no coverage at all for maternity, not even an emergency of that condition. Being pregnant will NOT negate your coverage with the plan. I will put links for that plan below.

You can get all information about Patriot Platinum insurance plan by reading the plan brochure and buy the Patriot Platinum insurance policy online.

There is a plan called Atlas America which, although it does not cover maternity either, it does cover "complications" of pregnancy in the first 26 weeks of gestation. So, this is coverage you hope you do not need, BUT, should there be some emergency and you are early in the pregnancy, it WOULD offer coverage. It is the only plan which has this type of coverage, so I point it out to you so you can make a comparison and see if it is right for you.

My wife and I are South African citizens. We have been living and working in China for the past year. The company that I work for (a German group with an operation in the US) has indicated that I may be sent to the US operation in LeRoy, NY, later this year.

If the insurance plan has not become effective before the woman conceives, then there is no plan that will cover pregnancy as it will be treated as a pre existing condition. The only policy that covers a pregnancy already started is Atlas America. However, as a green card holder, you are not eligible for that plan. You're best bet is to find an OB0GYN that will take you as a patient, explain you do not have insurance and see how much they will charge you. You can shop around and get the best deal.

There is no insurance you can purchase to cover the delivery of a current pregnancy (high risk or not). The best you can get is a policy called Atlas America which only covers "complications of pregnancy" in the first 26 weeks of gestation. So, this excludes delivery and, of course, it is coverage you hope you will not need.

Best course is probably to deliver in Canada where, I assume, you will have full coverage. If you are a US citizen there may be options available, but many plans also have waiting periods for coverage of pre-existing conditions.

The Global Medical Platinum Plan covers 50% of maternity expenses up to $100,000 (then 100%). Most others have a set amount of about $5,000 or $7,500 that they pay.

Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your travel health insurance for pregnancy/maternity coverage ! . There is no policy that will pay for an existing pregnancy. Travel medical insurance works on the premise of an unanticipated event, and cannot pay for an event that is certain to happen. Some insurance do provide cover for maternity but after a certain waiting period of having the insurance coverage.

My name is Muhammad Zubair Ahmad. I am 36 years old male. My Wife name is Durre Sadaf. She is 43 years old. We both are Consultant Dentist and working as senior faculty members at Dental college, Qassim University, Saudi Arabia. We have excellent salaries.We are Pakistani nationals. We have a 2 years old baby. All 3 of us are perfectly normal and healthy and never diagnosed with any illness or disease. Reason for contacting you is that we need a good comprehensive insurance plan which include USA also that can cover various travel and health benefits including maternity benefits. Please note that my wife is not pregnant right now. We travel a lot (almost every 3 to 4 months) and each time we travel we purchase a short term travel insurance from local companies in Saudi Arabia. We are coming to US on B1 and B2 visas. A friend of mine has told me that your company can provide a good insurance plan for the whole family. Unfortunately I could not find any of your offices in Saudi Arabia. Kindly suggest any other possibility if you don't offer Insurance to people living in middle east.
