1.  Coverage for J2 visa holder who is pregnant

questionDear American Visitor Insurance,

My family and I are relocating to the U.S from Australia under an E2 investment visa. I’m 46, my partner is 40 and her son is 15. We require family health insurance for the 3 of us to start in about 3 weeks time. I have narrowed down the options to the Patriot Platinum America Comprehensive policy but have queries in relation to a couple of things. Hopefully you can assist: 1) My partner has asthma as a pre-existing condition and her son is allergic to different nuts. The website policy says it will cover acute onsite of pre-existing conditions under 70 years of age with varying limits by age up to $1,000,000 but then the brochure says it covers up to $50,000 up to 65 years of age.

Which amount of coverage is correct? Is her asthma and his allergy covered if they have to go to hospital and what is the coverage amount for these pre-existing conditions? 2) The policy mentions 'basic sports'. What sports does this cover? Is snow skiing covered? 3) The policy mentions 'adventure rider sports' as an optional extra. What sports come under adventure rider coverage? Please advise which policy has the greatest coverage for these pre-existing medical conditions as this will likely be the correct policy for us.

Regards,
Dean

questionDear Dean,

Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your travel health insurance needs for E2 visa !. Patriot Platinum is the insurance plan from the insurance company IMG(International Medical Group). Regarding your first question, the amount $1,000,000 is the maximum policy coverage which is different from the coverage for acute onset of pre-existing condition. The amount $50,000 specified for acute onset of pre-existing condition is the correct amount.

The brochure mentions "Up to maximum limit" for most of the benefits in the brochure and those are the ones that can provide the policy maximum amount that you choose in your plan. This amount can be anything from $100,000 to $1,000,000. In the website of IMG, under the adventure sports section this is the wording given in their website: The Adventure Sports Rider is available for those up to the age of 65. The following activities are covered to the lifetime maximum amounts listed below as long as they are engaged solely for leisure, recreation, or entertainment purposes: abseiling, BMX, bobsledding, bungee jumping, canyoning, caving, hot air ballooning, jungle zip lining, parachuting, paragliding, parascending, rappelling, skydiving; spelunking, whitewater kayaking, wildlife safaris, and windsurfing.

All such activities must be carried out in strict accordance with the rules, regulations, and guidelines of the applicable Governing Body or Authority of each such activity. Certain sports activities are never covered, regardless of whether or not you purchase the Adventure Sports Rider. A complete list of these sports activities can be found in the exclusions section of the Certificate of Insurance.

2.  Health Insurance for E2 Visa holders visiting the US

questionHello,

My name is Miryam V, I am from Spain and I just arrive to USA to work. I was looking in your website and I am not sure about conditions and options to get a medical insurance and I would like if you can help me to know what I am able to have. These are my conditions:

-26 years old
-E2 visa (no-immigrant status)
I would like to be covered as soon as possible and for 2 months.

Thank you so much for your help,
Miryam V.

questionDear Miryam

We are recommending that you take a look at this great comprehensive plan called Safe Travels USA Cost Saver. It is offered by Trawick International and as the name implies is very economical! You have very flexible options for maximum and deductibles. It will cover you for your travel to the US and elsewhere outside your home country. The cost will be about $88 for a policy with a $100,000 maximum and a $250 deductible. Remember that the deductible is what you have to pay before the insurance starts to pay on your behalf. You can choose a higher or lower deductible (higher will cost less, lower more) as you like. To get a quote and or make your purchase, you can use this link for Safe Travels USA Cost Saver:
