questionHi Mr/Ms,
I am a student recently graduated from UCLA. My current insurance UCShip ends of January 2nd. I need a short-term comprehensive health insurance until February 20th when my job starts. My current visa status is F1 visa. Please let me know the best way to proceed.
Thank you,
Meghana.

questionDear Meghana,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your F1 Visa Insurance needs!
Since you are on F1 Visa and have already lived here in the US for some time now, you will not be eligible to buy some of our visitor plans. But here is one popular short term comprehensive plan that is available for you.
Atlas Travel plan from Tokiomarine HCC: The Atlas America plan is a good comprehensive plan and very popular with tourists to the US because if you stay within their PPO network (group of doctors and hospitals) you do not have to pay coinsurance (usually 20% of the first $5,000 of medical expenses). Also, children under 10 are covered at no charge with a paying adult (do put them on the application, though). Also, the plan covers "acute onset of pre-existing conditions" for persons under 70 years of age and adventure sports for no additional charge.
To purchase the Atlas America plan and look over details of this plan, use this link (PPO, claims, brochure), you can go directly to this site:

questionHello insurance customer team,
I am a Brazilian student and I am going on an exchange next semester. I wanted to know what package do you have of Insurance Service for my case.
My travel is from Feb/01/2015 to Aug/02/2015.
When I go to Get Quote, what does mean the item about Deductible per Certificate Period?
Thank you,
Julia

questionDear Julia,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your US visitor health insurance needs!
We offer a variety of plans that will satisfy your requirements.
You can use this link to compare different student insurance options, download plan brochures, obtain online quotes as well as buy the plan online.

Students Medical Compare

In terms of the deductible, per certificate period means that the chosen deductible is paid only once from the start of the coverage till the end of the coverage ( in your case from February till August). Once the chosen deductible is satisfied, you will not have to pay for any more deductible no matter how many times you visit a provider.
I will be glad to assist in answering any questions you may have in identifying the plan that best meets requirements for your visa and/or institution as well as help you in completing the plan application.

questionHi there,
I'm looking for a student health insurance which meet the requirements on page 2 in this Brochure.
And also the plan should:
- Offer unlimited coverage for "essential" health care (more information on this here http://www.hhs.gov/healthcare/rights/limits/
- Offer coverage anywhere in the U.S.
- Cover medical evacuation and repatriation
Thank you,
Kevin

questionDear Kevin,
The Study USA plan covers one routine physical exam for 100% per certificate period. If you think that is not enough then below is the plan which is a global plan from GeoBlue and this covers preventive care and wellness check-ups. This is probably the best suited for your requirements.

questionDear Mario,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your Students health insurance needs!
For the criteria that you have mentioned below, the below plan is recommended We have a website specifically for Atlas America insurance.

Atlas America

You can get all information about Atlas insurance, see the brochure, search the PPO network and buy the policy in the website.
This policy is very popular with international travelers and has many excellent features. In particular, their coverage of "acute onset" of pre-existing conditions up to $100,000 or the maximum of the plan (whichever is smaller) for medical expenses and an additional $25,000 for emergency medical evacuation can put your mind at ease.
To purchase the Atlas America plan, you can go directly to this site:

questionHi,
I am presently insured because I work full-time; I am a U.S. citizen. I was recently admitted into a master's degree program in Madrid. I am interested in leaving employment to study abroad; however, I possess a pre-existing condition (HIV) with prescription costs of 2400/month (this is the cost without insurance). Do you have a program that would help/cover me?
Thank you very much,
James

questionDear James,
All the policies we sell would exclude covering any part of your medication costs since they exclude coverage for pre-existing conditions (on-going treatment). You can get coverage for "acute onset" of some pre-existing conditions with some plans, but the plans specifically exclude HIV coverage. Some even go so far as to not cover HIV patients at all (for any other illness, even unrelated to the HIV). So you must proceed carefully.

You could get something like Student Health Advantage which, while it won't cover your HIV treatment, would cover any other illness or situation.

questionHi,
I am thinking of taking out student insurance with your company, my son is Australian and studying in South Carolina, the problem I have with the application form questions is that he is already at the college studying, he arrived last month,so how do I answer the question about him departing here and arriving in the US? I have been sick and it was a BIG oversight by me not to take out his insurance before leaving, but obviously it must be done(and quickly!!!).
Thank you for your help,
Lynn Blackwell

questionDear Lynn,
It should not be a problem. You will have to tell them on the application the dates he left his home country and intends to return to home country. You cannot be back charged for days already in the US.
The soonest the coverage will start is the following day. Some companies will not issue a policy after a certain amount of time abroad without insurance depending on age, but usually for a young person this is not an issue. He is eligible for student policies or visitor policies. I will put links below:

Student Medical Compare     Visitors Medical Compare

If his institution has certain requirements, please look over the brochures carefully (or you can forward their requirements to us and we can have a look at them) to be sure they will satisfy their requirements.

questionHi,
Does the insurance cover a person on an O1 visa in USA from Australia. What is the monthly cost for a 19 year old?
Thank you,
Helen

questionDear Helen,
If the 19 year old is a full time student, you could get a student plan for $38/month (Global Student USA plan). These are very good plans with maximums between $200k and $300k and deductibles of $50 to $200.

Students Medical Compare

If the person is not a student, then you could get a visitor plan for about $46/month for a $100,000 max with a $250 deductible (for example the Patriot America plan).

questionHi,
Could you please tell me the benefits of maternity in Student Health Advantage Platinum Health insurance. It is mentioned as any other illness, what does this exactly mean??
Is it like
If incurred Outside of US/Canada: 100% eligible expenses to maximum limit
If incurred In US/Canada PPO Provider: 80% eligible expenses to maximum limit
If incurred in US/Canada NON PPO Provider: 60% eligible expenses to maximum limit or will you be providing 100% coverage ??
Thank you,
Poonam

questionDear Poonam,
"Covered as any other illness" means that there is no restriction for maternity. Some plans do not cover maternity but provide coverage for any other sickness or injury that happens unexpectedly during the coverage period. Maternity is only covered by student plans when the conception occurs before the policy becomes effective. So, "As any other illness" means maternity is covered in a similar way as coverage for other unexpected sickness or injury that a health insurance would cover.
The percentage of coverage as it was mentioned in the previous email. You have also mentioned it below. Does this help?

questionHi,
I have a query about the Student Health Advantage Platinum Health insurance. Although I might have asked some of it before but I would like to re-confirm it again.
I can see that I have to make a initial purchase for 3 months for 909$ and then I can renew that. So, my question is that:
1. Will I be able to pay monthly premiums of 303$ after the initial purchase ??
2a. It is mentioned that maternity will be same as any other Illness, does it mean that it will have full coverage in a PPO provider and a non PPO provider ???
2b. If I conceive after I make the initial purchase then will I have all the benefits once I renew this cover up to a year ??? It is not that I should not conceive in the first 3 months of the coverage and then once I renew it then only I can avail the benefits of maternity !!!
Kindly let me know.
Thank you,
Poonam

questionDear Poonam,
Here are the responses to your query - I have a query about the Student Health Advantage Platinum Health insurance.
I can see that I have to make a initial purchase for 3 months for 909$ and then I can renew that. So, my question is that:

Ques 1. Will I be able to pay monthly premiums of 303$ after the initial purchase ??
Ans 1: In order for you to renew the plan on a monthly basis, you will have to make an initial purchase of three months. After three months of coverage, you will be able to renew the plan every month for up to 5 years.

Ques 2a. It is mentioned that maternity will be same as any other Illness, does it mean that it will have full coverage in a PPO provider and a non PPO provider ???
Ans 2a: Student Health Advantage has to plans, the Standard and the Platinum.
The coverage for maternity for the Standard is as follows:
Subject to Special Maternity Pre-certification requirements
If incurred Outside of US/Canada: 100% eligible expenses to maximum limit
If incurred In US/Canada PPO Provider: 80% eligible expenses to maximum limit
If incurred in US/Canada NON PPO Provider: 60% eligible expenses to maximum limit

And the coverage for maternity for the Platinum is as follows:
Subject to Special Maternity Pre-certification requirements, same as any other Illness.

Ques 2b:. If I conceive after I make the initial purchase then will I have all the benefits once I renew this cover up to a year ??? It is not that I should not conceive in the first 3 months of the coverage and then once I renew it then only I can avail the benefits of maternity !!!
Ans 2b: Maternity is covered as any other illness as long as conception must occur after the effective date. And your coverage for maternity will depend on the specific plan you choose,

Please let us know if we can help you in any further.
