Review of Student Journey Lite insurance

IMG’s Student Journey Lite is the cheapest student medical insurance for non-U.S. individuals coming to the USA (or its territories) on J1, F1, and M1 visas. International students planning to continue their education in the U.S. may be required to have health insurance in place before they can enroll or apply for a visa. Some U.S. universities mandate group health insurance plans, while others have specific benefit requirements but allow students to provide their own coverage.

IMG offers flexibility, ensuring you can access the right benefits at the right cost. The Student Journey Medical Insurance provides a comprehensive range of essential benefits designed to meet both the medical and budgetary needs of all students.

Thanks for all the help and continued support you have provided. Although one hopes never to use travel insurance, you were a god-send throughout our ordeal. We couldn’t have done it without your continued assistance. Thanks again for everything.

I was unlucky enough to fall ill while abroad, and filed two claims with IMG; I was quite pleased at how easy and straight-forward this process was. My claims were processed quickly and without loads of red-tape. The representatives I spoke with were polite and helpful, as well.

A working example of using Student Journey Lite insurance*

Let us take an example: The medical bill is $25,000; Deductible is $100 and choosen Policy Maximum is $150,000.

  • full_coverage

    Insurance coverage $150,000

  • attach_money

    Deductible $100 per certificate period

  • draft

    Medical expenses Claims$25,000

The insured must pay the deductible ($0) before the insurance plan pays anything. Since the policy maximum coverage is $500,000 and the total amount billed is $25,000, the policy will pay 80% of first $25,000 then 100% up to the policy limit ($500,000). In this case the insured expense after the deductible is 20% of first $5,000, which is $1,000. Thus your final expense is $1,000 while the insurance company will cover the remaining $24,000.

Expense Amount billed Amount Insurance Pays Amount Insured Owes
Deductible $0 $0 $0
Hospital Room Rent $9k $8k $1k (20% of first $5k)
Surgery $15k $15k $0
X Ray $1k $1k $0
