The medical coverage is for unexpected medical expenses. After the deductible is paid, the plan with either pay 90% of the first $5,000 of expenses (in network) or 80% out of network. Hello,
Your name came up on a web article as I was researching insurance policies available to student athletes attending American universities.
Our daughter (age 17; will turn 18 in Aug.) will be attending university in Wisconsin. We are Canadian residents in Nova Scotia, but she is a dual
U.S./Candian citizen. She is planning to play on the university's women's basketball team, and the season lasts approximately 5 months, from Nov to March.
According to NCAA athletic association rules, she must provide evidence of insurance that includes coverage for athletic-related injuries,
with a coverage limit of at least $90,000. She has medical insurance that covers her in the U.S., but not for intercollegiate athletics.
I wondered if you might be able to provide a quote for a policy that would cover her as a university athlete in the U.S.

Marge Garren
Dear Marge,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your Student sports insurance needs!
If you are interested in the student plans which include coverage for intercollegiate sports, then you can refer to the below link for that information. You can get an idea of cost and options by putting your information here: Student insurance.
Some student insurance plans exclude coverage for Intercollegiate sports governed by NCAA for most F1 visa students.
The only plan that covers NCAA college sports is the Diplomat America Insurance with the rider.
Please let us know if we can help you in any further.

Dear American Visitor Insurance,
I am going to the US to seek my Masters Degree on August.
I have Type 1 Diabetes since I am 7 years old. I am 23 years old, i am looking ways on which insurance could be the best fit for me? since i have been investigating and insulin is very expensive in the US!.

Milka
Dear Milka,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your Students health insurance needs!
Congratulations on your Master’s Degree work! The plans we offer do not cover any maintenance medication or treatment. I'm afraid that you will have to pay for that out of pocket. However, prices can vary widely by pharmacy and there are "discount cards" that are free that also change the prices significantly. I would check, for example, the Walmart pharmacy. They are famous for having many routine medications available for $40 per month. You may have to be sure a generic is OK, but that might be a good route for you.
Certainly our plans will help you should you become ill or injured, but you will have to figure out how to get your insulin and doctor visits for the diabetes taken care of.
A great student plan is:
Hi,
I wanted to touch base with you to possibly get an insurance quote for our international students for next year. I will have approximately 30-35 to cover. I don't need a premium plan...if we could get a quote on a middle of the road plan...that has a co-pay for office visits (I am thinking it would be less expensive)... They are all on an F1 Visa.
I have a few questions about your coverage: What/who in the Melbourne, Florida area accepts this insurance? Do the students have to pay in advance and then submit a claim form? What is the pre-existing conditions waiting period? If they were to go to a doctor for a simple check up and/or basic sports physical, would the visit be covered or there a co-pay due/ Please respond as soon as possible as I will be making a decision by July 19.

We have several group plans we could go with. The one I have in mind for you is called Patriot Exchange and I like it because there is a $100 deductible payable per injury/sickness and no other charge. It will cost about $57 per student per month for a $250,000 maximum policy (this includes full coverage for injuries sustained doing HS sports). The other group plans all have a deductible and after that a coinsurance payment of 20% usually of the next $5000. Here are links to the policy I am recommending for you. (Note that the "add-on" includes coverage for high school sports, so I included that in the price) To get a free quote and/or buy Patriot Exchange insurance:

Hello,
I am an international student studying in Canada, I plan to go to the Iceland in December. To apply the visa, I need a travel insurance which has a minimum coverage of 30000 Euros. Therefore, I am wondering if this insurance works for me.
Thanks,
Sylvia
Dear Sylvia,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your Students health insurance needs!
The Patriot plan is very popular with international travelers and has many excellent features. In particular, their coverage of "acute onset" of pre-existing conditions up to the maximum of the plan for medical expenses and an additional $25,000 for emergency medical evacuation can put your mind at ease. Also, if you family has citizenship from different countries, you will be able to list this accurately for each person on the policy. This is suitable for people traveling to European countries. You can use this plan for your travel to Iceland.

Please let me know the best options to go through with it
Thanks,
Chani
Dear Chani,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your International students health insurance needs!
Students and scholars on F or J visas have the best coverage for maternity coverage. However, the best coverage available is 80% coverage of costs, so please be aware that you will be responsible for a portion of all costs. There are four policies that cover maternity at an 80% coverage without a set limit on benefits. I will list them in order of their approximate cost. Note that conception has to occur after the start of the plan and most plans ask that you let them know at least three months before your delivery date.
1. STUDY USA plan: Study USA Pref 300 and Pref 500 both cover maternity at a 80/70% (in network/out of network). Conception has to occur after the start of this plan. To purchase and/or get a quote for this policy, use this link:

Hi,
I’m a student and need health insurance, please can you suggest an insurance policy and its price.
Thank you.
Ajay
Dear Ajay,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your Students health insurance needs! Before you buy a student insurance plan you need to be aware of the vital insurance factors that determine the price of an insurance plan.
The insurance plan policy maximum and type of coverage determine the price of the plan. Most universities have the requirement that the policy must cover per injury or sickness. The next factors are deductible, coinsurance and copay, these are the part of payment you need to make for expenses of the treatment of an injury or sickness. There some requirements for a coverage that the plan should offer, like the pre-existing cover, dental cover, mental illness coverage, sports cover, preventive care cover and cover for dependents. All these factors affect the price of the insurance plan. More the benefits higher will be the price of the plan.
Review these factors for the best student insurance plan in detail.
Keeping these things in mind you can get free quotes for international student health insurance by answering a few questions based your requirements. A list of popular student insurance plans will be displayed from reputed insurance providers. You can select 2 or more plans to compare and finally choose the best plan satisfying your needs.

Dear Kara,
Thank you for contacting us for your International student health insurance needs!
I have looked over the requirements for Emory and it looks like there is ONE policy which will meet and exceed these requirements. The policy is Study USA and will cost $72.27 per month. It has a maximum of $250,000 and a deductible of $50. The main problem with the other policies (which could be cheaper) is the very odd requirement of $25,500 for repatriation. Most policies are only $25,000 so that is why you are limited to that choice.
Here are the links and information for that policy:
Dear American Visitor Insurance,
When I went to pay the Student Secure I must accept the terms and conditions before, can you explain me the meaning of this?
" I understand that Lloyd's operates as an approved, non-admitted insurer in all states of the United States except Illinois and Kentucky where they are admitted. As such, claims under this insurance may not be made against any state guaranty fund. "
Thank you very much.
Bea
Dear Bea,
Thank you for contacting us for your Student health insurance needs!
Every state's insurance department has their own funds that they use to pay claims of state residents' whose insurer - whether it be health, life, home, etc. - is no longer solvent and cannot pay the claims of its members, or in other words keep their promise because they ran out of money. The only insurance companies whose members can receive payment from these funds would be those that are admitted by the state.
Since the international products offered by WorldTrips are underwritten by Lloyd's, in all states but Kentucky (KY) and Illinois (IL), WorldTrips customers would not be able to submit their claim to the insurance department in the event WorldTrips is no longer able to pay claims.
However, please be aware that WorldTrips is one of the most financially stable specialty insurers in the world, with the ratings to match, and a surplus of over $9B. The language can be a little unnerving but it would be nearly impossible for WorldTrips to not be able to pay claims on our policies due to financial stability. One of the benefits of choosing WorldTrips is the financial strength and stability. But since WorldTrips is not technically admitted in most states, they are still required to include that language.
I hope this is able to clear your concern. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Dear Regina,

It satisfies most US university requirements and is hugely popular. You can add your children as your dependents.
Dear Madam/Sir,
Thank you very much for your mail with the list of "Compare Students Insurance", which I found very helpful.
Here, I would like to raise two questions for your kind assistance, if possible:
1) I am looking for a medical insurance plan for my son, who is 18 years old and will come to Ohio this coming August for a 4-year undergraduate study as a F-1 foreign student. But I notice that the medical covers you collect are either for the US, or worldwide excluding the US.
My question is: is there any additional medical insurance plan or solution for his short travel out of the US and also for his short stay in his home country China (for example in the summer vocation or Christmas holiday)?
2) I notice that some medical insurance providers offer their products for F-1 foreign students only on a maximum 10-month period per year. I wonder what is the thinking behind the design of the 10-month policy period and how about the rest two-month period without medical cover?
Thank you very much for your kind reply and time in advance!

Thank you,

Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your Students health insurance needs!. The Patriot insurance plan offered by IMG is specifically designed for short term visitors to USA and is a hugely popular choice among tourists to America. Because your niece will only need a couple of weeks of insurance before her school insurance kicks in, I will suggest
a short term visitor insurance instead. The student policies are great but must be purchased for whole months only. This way, you only pay for the days she will need.
The Patriot America Lite plan will cost $28 for a $500,000 maximum plan with a $250 deductible. You can select other maximum and deductible amounts if you like.
You can start the insurance as soon as the following day, so you will be able to make the purchase before she leaves (provided you buy it tomorrow on the 12th) and you can make the purchase for her from Canada and you only need the information that you have (name, date of birth, passport number). You can still purchase it after
she leaves China, but her travel and anything that should happen before the policy starts, would, of course, not be covered.
Hello,
I have a daughter who is 15 years old and is coming to US as a student. She will be attending the residential treatment center. She is a Canadian citizen. I was looking for a plan that would cover her for mental health. She has behavioral problems. Can you suggest me something that covers her condition?
Thanks,
Marie McCloskey
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your Students health insurance needs!.
We have spoken to the IMG and WorldTrips plan administrators regarding the student plan that you need that will cover mental illness and your specific case.
The condition that your daughter has will be treated as pre existing and will have certain waiting period to be covered by the insurance. If she has any injury due to this it totally depends on the medical records that gets submitted to the insurance company.
IMG has a plan called Student Health Advantage. This plan has a 12 month waiting period to cover the illness.
The WorldTrips student plans do cover this condition as pre existing with a waiting period of 6 months but these plans are eligible only for students on F1 Visa.
You are eligible to purchase the Atlas plan from WorldTrips but this will not have coverage for the mental health.
Below are the links for the Student Health Advantage and the Atlas plan if you are interested:

Hi,
I took out a medical insurance policy on behalf of my daughter online on 3 June 2013 - payment taken from my MasterCard on 5 Jun 2013. We requested online fulfillment and downloaded a copy of the policy summary but we have not received the promised email. It is possible that we may have entered the wrong email address online.
Could you please send a copy of the email confirmation/policy details to this email address by return?
Thanks,
Robert

Hi,
I am a medical student from Nigeria and i am preparing for an elective programme in the US. How do i get the cheapest international student insurance package?
Hello,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your Students health insurance needs!.
Simply use our student medical insurance compare engine. You must make sure that you choose a plan to meet your institution’s requirements. Our staff can help you make a good choice. However, you still have an extra hurdle since you are from Nigeria. Unfortunately, due to the high amount of fraud from your country, many companies won’t accept online applications from Nigerian citizens. If your country is not on the list of their online application, you can still submit a paper application (by mail or fax) for the insurance that will work for you. The paper applications can be usually be found at the end of the brochure. To use our Student Medical Insurance Compare Engine click the below link:

Dear customer support,
I am an international student coming to the US. Please recommend affordable plans for me.
Thanks you,
Amyra
Dear Amyra,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your Students health insurance needs!. The Patriot Exchange insurance plan offered by International Medical Group (IMG) provides comprehensive insurance for international students (F1 visa) and J1 visa scholars in the USA. It satisfies J1 visa and most US university requirements and is hugely popular.
For a policy max of 50,000 and 100 deductible (please note that the deductible is PER INJURY/SICKNESS), your total premium for one month is 223.98. This plan is renewable for up 48 months.
Dear customer support,
Do you offer group international student health and accident policies for colleges in the U.S?
Thanks,
Steve
Dear Steve,
Thank you for contacting us at American Visitor Insurance for your Students health insurance needs! Here are some options for your international students:
Patriot Exchange Group administered by International Medical Group (IMG) This is a student policy with a $100 deductible per injury/sickness. The student would only pay the deductible and nothing after that (unless there is another sickness or injury). Also, if a student can use a college health center, they only pay a $5 copay (no deductible). These are great advantages to the plan. The plan is only for sudden illness and accident and will not cover collegiate sports involvement (recreational activities are OK). No mental health or maternity coverage. There are several maximum options: $50,000, $250,000 and $500,000. The approximate costs by age and maximum per month are as follows:
18-24 | 25-49 | |
$50,000 | $46 | $58 |
$250,000 | $58 | $71 |
$500,000 | $61 | $88 |
18-29 | 30-39 | |
$50,000 | $37 | $39 |
$100,000 | $46 | $62 |
$500,000 | $59 | $77 |
$1 million | $71 | $91 |

It provides coverage for medical expenses, trip cancellation, loss of baggage, personal liability, any sporting activity and more while outside the USA. When US students are traveling abroad, either in a group or alone, be it for a short trip, or for longer stays of a semester abroad, it is important to have the best student insurance from the US since healthcare is different outside the US and this US student health insurance can provide access to the best healthcare available.
